A musical program to support the Home Away From Home after school youth program will pay tribute to all things Irish as So Rare performs its St. Patrick’s Day Show from 3 to 5 p.m. March 14 in Hemet.

“This particular program that we are helping to raise money for is very special,” said Barry Eisen, a member of the troupe. “The challenge of where some kids go after school when parents are working is a common issue throughout the country. And some issues are best solved by community.”

The youth program for first- through sixth-grade children is headed by Melvin Carter and offers homework help, guidance, mentorship, physical education and sports opportunities at the Family Life Center, adjacent to Hemet United Methodist Church.

“We have met many of the kids from this program and they are terrific,” Eisen said. “Many help out at these fundraisers. “It really is a pleasure to help a program in the local community and see the positive results.”

So Rare, has held fund-raising shows for other nonprofits and performs at private events, such as birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and various community events. Troupe members, along with Eisen, are Leonard Fisher, Bob Higgins, Iris Johnson, Lindsey Mitobe and Gigi St. John.

“We love what we do and have a lot of fun doing it,” Johnson said. “We will be doing some Irish songs – some fun ones that people can join in on and some folk songs along with some of our standards.”

Hemet Methodist Church’s Family Life Center is at 530 S. Buena Vista St. Tickets are $10 each and there will be light snacks.
